French metal strap basket originally used for shipping wine.
Distressed metal straps. Great industrial look.
These baskets would have originally been padded with straw and covered with burlap in order to prevent breakage in shipping. Once the padding has been removed it becomes more practical for use along side of a fireplace for holding wood or even as a decorative planter, in an interior setting or in an outdoor landscape. Most of these baskets were made in the 19th century.
